Stay Focused in Faith

Our bodies, minds, and spirits were never meant to bear the weight of the world. It causes undue stress and anxiety and leaves us feeling pulled from pillar to post as our emotions are manipulated by the stories the media decides to tell.
Beyond just being stressful, though, our current knowledge of global events is doing something even more subtle and sinister – it’s distracting us from what’s right in front of us.
We can live a life that is focused in faith, though. All it requires is for us to throw off those things which distract us and set our sights instead on Jesus.
Here for a Reason
God has placed each of us where He has us for a reason. But our job is not to save the world. He has already done that, and He has a perfect plan to return to us soon in absolute victory and restore us fully to Himself.
In the meantime, our job is to be Christ’s ambassadors right where He has placed us. Our job is to be His hands and feet, to go and make disciples, and to be obedient to what He is asking each of us to do right now where He has us.
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
We are each divinely designed with a plan and purpose. Don’t allow what’s going on around the world to distract you from God’s perfect plan and purpose for your life.
Taking in and talking about the issues of today is very limited in its fruit. We want to be informed so we can make wise and responsible choices, but beyond that, it’s overload. What actually advances the kingdom of God is us being the hands and feet of Jesus, loving our neighbors as God has equipped each of us individually and uniquely to do each and every day.
Make the choice today to stay focused in the faith. God's Word is full of reminders for us to do just that.
7 Verses to Help You Stay Focused in the Faith
...make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left.
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
“…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,”
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things
Focused Faith Day by Day
Each day comes with its own distractions, so each day we must make a fresh decision to stay focused in the faith and be obedient to what God is calling us to. The good news is God is faithful to meet us where we are. When we set our hearts on things above and not on things below, He will certainly guide us each step of the way and will work in us and through us for our good and His glory.
